What is Periscope?
A zoom camera system using folded optics to achieve high magnification.
A periscope camera uses a prism to reflect light 90 degrees, allowing lenses to be stacked horizontally inside the phone body. This enables much longer focal lengths (5x, 10x) without making the phone too thick. How it Works: Light enters -> Prism reflects 90° -> Passes through lenses -> Hits sensor.
Benefits
- High Zoom: 5x, 10x, or even 100x hybrid zoom.
- Quality: significantly sharper than digital zoom at long range.
Drawbacks
- Space: Takes up significant internal volume.
- Cost: Expensive to manufacture.
